SBA Elections Fall 2020

2020-2021 SBA/Honor Board Election Guidelines

This year all voting and campaigning will take place online. The election will be held on September 17, 2020. The following positions are available.

President

         The president of the SBA acts as the principal liaison between the administration and the student body. Primarily, the SBA president is in charge of overseeing the executive committee and chairs and corresponding with them directly to monitor the progress of events and deadlines. Additionally, although all of the members of the executive board vote on the chair selections, the president makes the final decision should consensus not be reached. Lastly, the president sets the dates and agendas for any SBA meetings and student-wide events that will be held throughout the school year.

Vice-President

          The vice-president of the SBA represents the American Bar Association, oversees the student organizations, and handles money allotment. The vice-president works closely with the Deans of the Law School to organize events such as the Student Org Fair, Leadership Meetings, and tabling schedules. The vice-president sets and enforces deadlines for semester plans and semester assessments for the student organizations.

Election Chair and Newsletter

          This position oversees all elections, newsletters, and supervises the class representatives. This position is also the liaison between students and the SBA and handles the email account.

  • To run for a board position: Email loynosba@gmail.com with the position you intend to run for by September 8, 2020.
  • Alex Baird will give you an online petition for which you must collect 50 e-signatures by September 14, 2020.
  • Electronic campaigning (on Groupme, Facebook, etc) may commence once you email SBA.
  • You must submit a video with a speech that will be posted to the class Facebook accounts by September 15, 2020.
  • In the event of a tie, run-off elections will be held on September 22, 2020.
  • To appeal the election results, a letter detailing the challenge must be submitted to the loynosba@gmail.com by September 21, 2020.

 

Class Representatives

          There are 2 class representatives per law school year. (1L, 2L, 3L, and night student). Class representatives represent the ideas of their class in SBA meetings. Additionally, they will choose one cabinet to work with for the year to help in furthering the activities of their chosen cabinet.

Honor Board Representatives

          An Honor Board Representative represents his or her class by serving in an advisory capacity to the Deans. The position involves assisting Honor Board officers in the investigation of alleged Honor Code violations. The Honor Board is composed of three members of each day division class and one member of each night division class.

To run for a class or honor board representative position:

  • Email loynosba@gmail.com with the position you intend to run for by September 8, 2020.
  • The secretary will give you an online petition for which you must collect 25 e-signatures by September 14, 2020.
  • Electronic campaigning (on Groupme, Facebook, etc) may commence once you email SBA.
  • In the event of a tie, run-off elections will be held on September 22, 2020.
  • To appeal the election results, a letter detailing the challenge must be submitted to the loynosba@gmail.com by September 21, 2020.

Cabinet positions

          These positions are not voted on, but rather are applied for. The link to the respective applications are below and are due by September 17, 2020.

          Social Chair

          There will be two social chairs chosen for the upcoming year. The social chair works with the administration to plan various socials throughout the year, including Barrister’s Ball.

           Wellness Chair

           The wellness chair plans various events around campus focused on wellness and health. In the past, this person has put up a basketball hoop for students on the law campus as well as planned yoga sessions for students before classes.
