Judson Mitchell

Professor Mitchell serves as professor for the criminal defense section of the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic. He received a B.A. in political science from Louisiana State University in 1991, graduating cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After receiving his Juris Doctor from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU in 1994, he was staff attorney at the New Orleans Pro Bono Project. Professor Mitchell came to Loyola in 1997 to direct the law clinic's homeless outreach program. He created a first-of-its kind technology and legal innovation clinic in 2012 and lectures often on the subject of law and technology. Professor Mitchell's teaching experience includes clinical seminars in general criminal defense, DWI defense, and prosecution.

Professor Mitchell has served on the boards of a number of civic organizations, including the New Orleans Mayor's Task Force on Homelessness and the Justice and Accountability Center of Louisiana. For the Louisiana State Bar Association, he serves as chairman of the Access to Justice Technology Subcommittee and is a member of the President's Technology Task Force. He received the Gillis Long Public Service Award in 2004 and the Legatus Christi Award from the Harry Tompson Center in 2011 for his services to the homeless. Professor Mitchell is also a prolific software developer, having written a number of software programs, most notably ClinicCases, for law school clinics and non-profit agencies.
