Public Service Awards

The Poverty Law Center recognizes Loyola students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have demonstrated a commitment to social justice for the disadvantaged.  Recipients are chosen from nominations submitted to the Gillis Long office.  Awards are presented at a ceremony each spring.

The Gillis Long Poverty Law Center offers three programs that support Loyola's College of Law graduates.

The Gillis Long Poverty Law Center gives Loyola law students opportunities to serve the greater good while supplementing their coursework with real world legal research and practice. Through the internships and the Pro Bono Program, students may work with nonprofit organizations to gain lawyering skills.

Loyola places a unique emphasis on comparative and international law owing to its location in the state of Louisiana. Due to the confluence of laws and practices rooted in civil law and common law, Louisiana is now considered to be a mixed jurisdiction. The College of Law’s dual curriculum, its Jesuit heritage, and its geographic location in the culturally diverse international port city of New Orleans also contributes to its global focus associated with studying and learning at Loyola. 

Loyola University New Orleans has a number of options for students who wish to pursue interdisciplinary studies. Our joint degree programs create a comprehensive curriculum in multiple areas of study.

Evening Law Studies

For more than 100 years, Loyola University New Orleans College of Law has been the only law school in New Orleans to offer working professionals and non-traditional students the opportunity to earn a law degree in the evening. From recent graduates to retirees, empty nesters to new parents, our part-time students hail from diverse backgrounds, making the classroom a dynamic experience for both professors and students.
