Gillis Long Criminal Justice Summer Program

The Gillis Long Poverty Law Center is excited to announce a new initiative, the Gillis Long Criminal Justice Summer Internship Program*. Funding is available for criminal justice internships with the Orleans Public Defenders, Jefferson Parish Public Defender, Innocence Project New Orleans, and Capital Appeals Project.

Program Information

This program has limited funding. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee to determine awards.

Criteria:

  • Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in criminal justice.
  • Applicants must have at least a 2.0 G.P.A.
  • Applicants must have already secured an internship with a participating employer on a full-time basis.
  • The student must be committed to work for eight (8) to ten (10) weeks over the course of the summer with the participating employer.

To apply for funding, please upload the following to Symplicity:

  • A resume
  • A cover letter with the following information:

    o   The name of the organization where you will be working over the summer.

    o   The start date and the end date of your internship.

    o   A brief statement regarding your commitment to criminal justice.
