Student Victories

  • Please join the Moot Court Board in congratulating the following students who have advanced to the Final Four: Callie Casstevens, Sarah Johnson, Nicole Stillwell and Lindsey Surratt. The Final Four competition is open to everyone and will take place on Friday, April 11th, at 2:00pm in Judge Jay C. Zainey’s courtroom at the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana. The courthouse is located at 500 Poydras Street, New Orleans, LA 70130 (corner of Camp and Poydras).
  • Loyola's Mediation Competition Team wins it all. First Place: Anne Marie Muller (2L) and Justin Reese (3L); Coach Mike Busada (3L); Second Place:  Richard Brown (2L) and Daniel Millian (2L); Coach Chun-Liang Kuo (3L) Faculty Advisor:  Nannette Jolivette Brown. The First Place team automatically advances to the ABA National 2008 Representation in Mediation Competition to be held in Seattle, Washington during the first week of April.  Depending on results from other regions after all regional competitions are completed, the second place team could be invited to the National Competition as well. Please join me in congratulating all of these students!
  • The Moot Court First Amendment Team, competed at Vanderbilt Law School, finishing in the Final Four out of 38 law schools from around the country! Laura Ashley Turnipseed was honored as Top Oralist out of the 76 competing oralists at the competition! Be sure to congratulate the team for showing show the national and international legal communities that Loyola Moot Court sets the standard for competitve appellate advocacy!   • Great News -- the National Moot Court Team advanced to the Top 16 (of over 180 teams) at the National Competition in New York!
  • Loyola Moot Court's National Team finished in 2nd place at the 2007 Regional Competiton at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. They will advance to the National Moot Court Competition in New York in January 2008, which will involve the Top 28 out of 185 teams that competed in their respective regional competitions this Fall. Team Members: Staci Jirovec (Oralist/Brief Writer), Michael Palestina (Oralist), Susannah Barr (Oralist), and Robin Penzato Arnold (Coach)
  • Congratulations to Loyola Law Clinic Criminal Defense students Tania Nelson and Leon Roche in their trial victory at Criminal District Court. Supervised by: Professor Ernest L. Jones
  • Loyola Law Clinic student practitioners, Sara Guidry, Maggie Lalande, and Kyla Rogers, successfully argued their exceptions in the 24th JDC of Jefferson Parish in a paternity case involving LCC art. 195 and constitutional issues. The students were supervised by Professor Cheryl Buchert.

Crowe Scholars

In 2000, the faculty at the College of Law established an honor, in memory of their late colleague, for students graduating in the top 10 percent of their class. These students are designated the William L. Crowe, Sr., Scholars. This determination is based on cumulative grade point averages after the previous fall semester is updated by changes in grades received by March 1.

The Order of Barristers

The Order of Barristers is a national honor society that seeks to encourage effective oral advocacy and brief writing through law school advocacy - related classes and programs. Schools selected to have chapters in The Order include those nationallly recognized for outstanding Moot Court and mock trial programs and for successful participation in regional, national, and international interscholastic oral advocacy competitions. Loyola University New Orleans College of Law is honored to have achieved the distinction of having a chapter of The Order of Barristers. Ten students are chosen each year based on excellent trial and appellate oral advocacy skills as well as excellent brief writing skills.

Who's Who

Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, criteria for evaluating nominees include scholarship ability, participation and leadership in academic extracurricular activities, citizenship and service to the school, and potential for future achievement. Each year, Faculty and Administrators select those students who they believe fit the criteria.
