Description of Field Work
The Southern Poverty Law Center is "dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society. Using litigation, education and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opporutnity will be a reality."  Students are encouraged to research the ongoing work of SPLC to fully understand the various research based projects or active litigation.  An extern's experience may differ depending upon the semester.  Most of the experience is assignment based and provides support to staff attorneys working on current research projects or active litigation. Students may have the opportunity to work on active litigation including discovery, interviews, class action, impact meetings and motion drafting.  Also students interested in policy work and legislative processes may have an opportunity to work with a staff attorney on reform issues.

SPLC offers opportunities for students in the Fall and Spring semester.
