The New Orleans Advocate Recognizes Family Law Clinic Students Caitlin Smitherman and Lindsey Soboul for Work with Families Helping Families

Caitlin Smitherman and Lindsey Soboul, both 3L students practicing with the Family Law Section of the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic and Center for Social Justice, were recently recognized by The New Orleans Advocate for their legal work with disabled teens. Smitherman and Soboul, under the supervision of clinical professor Cheryl Prestenback Buchert, are partnering with Families Helping Families of Jefferson to provide legal representation to young adults with developmental and mental disabilities who wish to obtain continuing tutorships. A continuing tutorship may be obtained for someone who has developmental or mental disabilities and is between the ages of 15 and 18. If a continuing tutorship is granted by a court, the parent or tutor maintains the legal authority to act for the individual after age 18 and through his or her adulthood.
