Environmental Law Professor Robert Verchick Leads Bicycle Tour of Louisiana’s Industrial Corridor

Professor Robert Verchick’s Environmental Justice students toured Louisiana’s Industrial Corridor (known as “Cancer Alley”) on bicycles with members from the Louisiana Bucket Brigade.  On the half-day trip, they examined nearby oil refineries, visited neighboring communities struggling with air toxins, and learned about EPA’s new rule on refinery emissions.  Those regulations will introduce fence line monitoring of the carcinogen benzene. The tour was led by the Bucket Brigade’s Anne Rolfe and Iris Brown and supported by Loyola’s Center for Environmental Law.
