Professor Imre Szalai and Law Students Prepared and Filed Amicus Brief

Professor Imre Szalai, working together with four of his students, recently prepared and filed an amicus brief, pro bono, in a case pending in federal court for the Western District of Louisiana. The case, Corvel Corp. v. Southwest Louisiana Hospital Ass’n, involves issues of civil procedure and federal arbitration law, particularly, whether a class action can be administered in an arbitration proceeding. The brief analyzed several problems involved with administering a class action in arbitration, and the brief also examined the legislative history of the Federal Arbitration Act to demonstrate that federal arbitration law was never intended to support class actions in arbitration.
