Student Membership
Membership in General
Membership on the Annual is limited to those students who have demonstrated excellence in legal
scholarship or legal writing.
Membership by Grades
A student becomes a candidate for membership on the Annual as follows:
The Editor-in-Chief shall extend invitations for candidacy on the Annual, during the summer after first
year, to students who comprise the top third percent (33%) of the freshman class of the day division and
those students who comprise the top third percent (33%) of the freshman class of the evening division
at the completion of the first year, based on class rankings supplied by the Record’s office. Each student
must have successfully fulfilled the course requirements of the first year curriculum.
Membership by Writing
A student becomes a candidate for membership on the Annual as follows:
During the summer after first year, the Editor-in-Chief shall extend invitations to compete for candidacy
on the Annual. The Editor-in-Chief with the assistance of the Editorial Board shall conduct a write-on
competition during the summer of each year, beginning shortly after the posting of spring semester
rankings and ending at the beginning of the upcoming fall semester. Students who comprise the top third
to fifty percent (33-50%) of the freshman class of the day division and the top third to fifty percent (33-
50%) of the freshman class of the evening division at the completion of the first year, based on class
rankings supplied by the Record’s office. Each student must have successfully fulfilled the course
requirements of the first year curriculum.
The entries submitted in the article writing competition will be evaluated by a reviewing committee of
no fewer than four (4) members of the Editorial Board. The reviewing committee shall select by
unanimous vote any number of deserving write-on candidates. The concurrence of the faculty advisor
shall be obtained in evaluating the substantive excellence of the article. The Editor-in-Chief shall extend
invitations of candidacy on the Annual to those students whose articles demonstrate academic excellence
and exceptional legal writing.
Promotion of Candidates to Membership Status
After at least one (1) academic year on the Annual, a candidate who has satisfactorily submitted a
publishable article/comment/casenote, as determined by the Editorial Board shall become a member of
the Annual.
To maintain membership, all members are required to complete all assignments given by the
assigned deadline and remain in good standing with Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.
