Lodging
While the Summer Legal Studies Program does not provide housing, we recommend the Hotel Atlas and other facilities that our students have enjoyed over the past sixteen years. The Vienna Program Handbook contains a list of the facilities, as well as candid student comments describing them. We recommend that program participants read this part of the Handbook carefully so as to make the housing choice that is best suited for their needs and budget.
Program personnel stay at the Hotel Atlas because its location is directly at the Austrian Supreme Court and so close to the Ringstrasse and transit connections. Many program activities depart from this location as well. The Hotel Atlas is a privately owned dormitory with double and rooms, large private bathrooms, and a pleasant patio restaurant/bar for meeting other students. Free breakfast, color TV, and Internet are provided. This and most comparable accommodations in Vienna do not offer air conditioning, due to its northern European climate. See the Handbook for more on this.
The Vienna Program Handbook and Loyola's International Programs Coordinator offer assistance in selecting accommodations, but making the actual Hotel reservations is the responsibility of the student. Major credit cards are accepted.
Cultural Events
Students participate in the rich array of cultural offerings available in the imperial city of Vienna both individually and in groups. Guided group tours of such institutions as the world-famous Kunsthistorische Museum (Habsburg collection), the Schönbrunn, the Belvedere, the nearby cathedrals, and the renowned Café Central are conducted daily after class. These are informal and optional tours for which the students bear the cost of any admission fees. Many students explore Vienna with the guided tour book provided by the program. Vienna is filled with fine restaurants, unique coffee houses, and diverse evening entertainment. The summer brings lively outdoor activity to the city from nightly film festivals to classical concerts.
