Professor Rault regularly teaches Evidence, Obligations and Criminal Law. He is a native New Orleanian, and attended Jesuit, Loyola and Spring Hill. He was an honor graduate of the Louisiana State University Law Center, where he served as an editor on the Louisiana Law Review. After service in the Marine Corps (enlisted and officer), and general civil practice in a large New Orleans law firm, he taught at Southern University Law School and was the creator and director of the L.S.U. Law Clinic. He joined the Loyola faculty in 1972. Professor Rault has served on the A.B.A.'s Client Counseling Committee, and created and served as the first director of the International (U.S., U.K., Canada) Client Counseling Competition. He has served as a special prosecutor on occasion, and has been qualified in Louisiana state courts as an expert in the defense of criminal cases. He has been active in the defense of death penalty cases in Louisiana, both at the trial and appellate levels, and created the Loyola Death Penalty Clinic, in which he and senior students are appointed to defend first degree murder cases. Professor Rault is a frequent lecturer and an author of several books and numerous law review articles. He is a coauthor of the annual Handbook on Louisiana Evidence Law. During the 1997-1998 school year, he was on sabbatical, serving as a Fulbright scholar and Distinguished Lecturer in Law in the People's Republic of China. During the Fall 1999 semester he was a Visiting Professor of Law at Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
