Dr. Puder holds advanced law degrees from the Federal Republic of Germany (Ph.D. in Law, Munich) and the United States (LL.M., Georgetown). For his studies, which included a research semester in the Republic of South Africa (University of Cape Town), he was awarded grants by Germany’s National Scholarship Foundation and the Fulbright Program.
Dr. Puder has earned the right to practice law in both common law and civil law jurisdictions. In the United States, he is a member of the New York State Bar and the U.S. Supreme Court Bar. His German multi-bar certification is recognized throughout the European Union.
In addition to speaking English, German, French, and Spanish, Dr. Puder has intermediate knowledge of Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Italian. In his spare time, Dr. Puder is a concert violinist.
At Loyola, Dr. Puder teaches Civil Law Property, Energy and Environment in International Law, and Introduction to US Law. He also serves as a Foundations Professor at Georgetown and Summer Academy Professor at the University of Salzburg.
Dr. Puder is the author of numerous books, book chapters and law review articles. He recently prepared, in solo work, the first bilingual edition (English-German) of the Louisiana Civil Code, with an introduction to Louisiana law. In the late 1990s, at a time when “fracking” was cheerfully ignored by the legal academy, he foresaw hydraulic fracturing as a “law and technology” issue requiring serious scholarly attention.
Dr. Puder has previously been employed in the Environmental Science Division of Argonne National Laboratory (a U.S. Department of Energy laboratory managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC), while teaching European Union Law at the Georgetown University Law Center and the George Washington University School of Law. He also taught Energy and Environmental Law at the Bucerius Law School (Hamburg, Germany) and the Universidade Petrobras (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Dr. Puder has further served as Congressional Fellow with the U.S. House of Representatives and as Law Clerk with the Munich Upper Regional Court of Appeals.
