Monique Garsaud received her juris doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 1997. While a law student, Ms. Garsaud served as a staff member of the Moot Court program and in her third year served as Moot Court Board Chairman. Also in her third year, Ms. Garsaud completed an externship for the Honorable Eldon E. Fallon, United States District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana, was a student member of the St. Thomas More Inns of Court and was elected by her classmates to serve as student graduation speaker.
Upon graduation, Ms. Garsaud served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Chief Judge Patrick M. Schott and Honorable Judge Dennis E. Bagneris of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal Louisiana. Following, Ms. Garsaud worked two years for a small insurance defense firm handling claims for large casualty insurance companies. In 2001, Ms. Garsaud joined the defense firm of Irwin Fritchie Urquhart & Moore LLC as a litigation associate, and was promoted to member in 2005. During her tenure at Irwin Fritchie Urquhart & Moore, Ms. Garsaud specialized in complex litigation and represented national and international manufacturers of pharmaceutical products and medical devices. During her career, Ms. Garsaud defended parties in four multidistrict litigations (MDLs), including In Re: ASR Hip Implant Product Liability Litigation, MDL- 2197, United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio; In Re: Propulsid Product Liability Litigation, MDL-1355, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana; In Re: Vioxx Product Liability Litigation, MDL-1657, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and In Re: Rezulin Product Liability Litigation, MDL- 1348 United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
In the matter of In Re: Propulsid Product Liability Litigation, MDL-1355, City of New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu awarded Ms. Garsaud for her work associated with the Charitable Contribution Fund, a Fund in the amount of $8.3 million designated for primary care treatment facilities throughout Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Charles Parishes.
During her career, Ms. Garsaud managed multiple person trial teams, served as the coordinator between national and local counsel and oversaw annual operational litigation budgets and quarterly forecasts for multiple litigations, ranging from $400,000 - $4 million.
Ms. Garsaud is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Foundation, Defense Research Institute and Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. In 2011, American Lawyer® named Ms. Garsaud as a “Best Lawyer” in the arenas of Products Liability Litigation and Mass Tort Litigation.
