Laila Hlass is a staff attorney in the Immigration Clinic at Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law. She also teaches a seminar in refugee and asylum law. Prior to joining Loyola, Laila was a Staff Attorney/Chadbourne & Parke Fellow at The Door Legal Services, where she provided holistic, legal services to immigrant youth in the New York City metropolitan area.
During 2009-10, Laila was selected as an Effective Leadership fellow with Duke University’s Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy. Laila currently serves on the board of the ACLU of Louisiana and National Lawyers Guild of Louisiana.
Laila received her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2006, and her Bachelor of Arts from Rice University in 2001. While in law school, Laila co-founded the Student Hurricane Network, a national network of law students that has recruited and placed more than 4,000 law students with pro bono placements in the hurricane affected region.
