2L Civil Law Student Patrick D. Murphree completed an externship at the Louisiana Supreme Court in the chambers of Justice Greg Guidry. In his chambers, Patrick was exposed to all areas of law and the legal profession for which the court is responsible, including civil law, criminal law, professional responsibility, and bar admissions. Patrick's primary responsibility was to write reports on applications for writs of certiorari and make recommendations as to whether or not the writs should be granted. He was also assigned several memoranda to write for the judge exploring legal issues in pending cases or in reply to proposed opinions or dissents written by other justices. Patrick says, "There are few things more thrilling than hearing that your memo is going to get circulated or that another judge found it well-written!"
