Karelia R. Stewart, J.D. ’04, was elected in August and sworn in October 1, 2014 to the Louisiana First Judicial District Court. She is the youngest female and second African American elected to the court and the first-ever second generation to be elected to the court; her father and uncle both previously served on the court.
Judge Stewart was born and raised in Shreveport. She is an honor graduate of Caddo Magnet High School, Dillard University, New Orleans and is a Merit Scholar and a graduate of Loyola University College of Law in New Orleans. Stewart has served as a prosecutor with the Caddo Parish District Attorney's office and as an adjunct professor of law-related courses at Louisiana State University Shreveport and at Bossier Parish Community College.
