John D. Mason, '92 (Humanities) and '96 (J.D.) has recently been appointed as the new President of the Board of Directors of Washington Lawyers for the Arts (WALA).
Mr. Mason is an art, entertainment and intellectual property attorney, and literary agent based in the Washington DC/Maryland area. His practice, Copyright Counselors, LLC and Mason Literary, focuses on copyright and trademark transactional matters, litigation, publishing and media issues, licensing, contracts, and commercial matters. John works with writers, artists, filmmakers and creative people and companies to protect, promote and exploit their work. In addition to his law practice, Mr. Mason has taught Art and the Law as adjunct faculty at George Mason University, chaired the Education Committee for WALA, and served in the past on the Board of Directors for the Washington Improv Theater and the Advisory Board of the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington.
WALA provides pro bono legal services for hundreds of artisits: filmmakers, painters, graphic designers, etc. and holds over 40 annual lectures for educational purposes.
