1977 Alumnus Lawrence Chehardy Appointed Chair of Louisiana Tax Commission

Lawrence E. Chehardy, J.D. ’77, was appointed as chair of the state Tax Commission by Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards. The agency reviews appeals of decisions made by tax assessors across the state.  Chehardy, a lawyer and former longtime Jefferson Parish tax assessor, will also represent a commission district that encompasses Jefferson, Ascension, Livingston, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington parishes. Previously, Chehardy was named to a committee advising the governor-elect on budgetary issues before he took office; Edwards was elected Nov. 21, 2015, and sworn into office Jan. 11, 2016.
